Bradenton, decoded: A real-city mix: a serious science museum, the Riverwalk, and spring-training baseball at a classic old ballpark.
The one thing to know: A blue-collar river city quietly turning its downtown and its Village of the Arts into something worth a detour.
The ranked list
Riverwalk
452 3rd Ave W, Bradenton, FL 34205, USA
The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature
Gulf Coast natural history from the Pleistocene to now, a 50-foot planetarium, and more than 40 rehab manatees hosted since 1998.
You get a 50-foot full-dome planetarium, the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat, and the Mosaic Backyard Universe in one downtown ticket, a short walk from the Riverwalk.
🗝️ Insider: Buy the ticket before you arrive. Planetarium doors lock at showtime; late entry is not allowed. Free street parking on 10th Street West is three hours.

De Soto National Memorial
A free National Park Service memorial to Hernando de Soto's 1539 expedition, with Camp Uzita living history.
This NPS memorial at the Manatee River and Tampa Bay commemorates Hernando de Soto's 1539 Florida expedition. Ranger kayak tours, fishing clinics, and Escape De Soto book on Recreation.gov. Visitor area 9 a.m.–4:45 p.m.; parking gates lock at 5.
🗝️ Insider: Be out of the lot before 5pm or the car stays overnight and may be ticketed. Call 941-792-0458 ext. 102 — winter living-history is posted as on hold.

Palma Sola Causeway Park
Palma Sola Bay on both sides of Manatee Avenue. County boat ramp. A marked blueway launch toward Perico Island.
You stop on the bay, not the Gulf — a roadside picnic and a kayak put-in on the drive to Anna Maria Island.
🗝️ Insider: Put in anywhere along the causeway, both sides of the road. The 5.25-mile paddle around Perico is the county's own short trip, about two hours.

Neal Preserve
A half-mile of shell and boardwalk past reconstructed mounds. The Smithsonian excavated the originals in the 1930s; the county dates habitation here from 3000 BC to 1400 AD.
A 120-acre coastal walk off the Anna Maria bridge — mangrove, salt tern, oak hammock, a 20-foot tower, and reconstructed burial mounds the county calls an open-air museum.
🗝️ Insider: Overflow parking is north of the bridge. One portable restroom sits in the lot. Leave bikes on the racks; they are not allowed on the trails.
