The Florida Aquarium
Open since 1995 in Tampa's Channel District, the Florida Aquarium pairs a 500,000-gallon coral-reef tank (sand tiger sharks and all) with genuinely important conservation work — it was among the first to reproduce ridged cactus and elkhorn coral in a lab, and now breeds 14 at-risk coral species behind the scenes. It's a strong half-day, and more mission-driven than most aquariums.
The downtown classic walks you from Florida's springs out to open ocean, with a shark tank and touch pools — and an outdoor splash zone that saves parents in August. Tickets from about $27.
