Sarasota Jungle Gardens
Carved out of a Sarasota swamp in the 1930s and open since 1939, Sarasota Jungle Gardens is 10 acres of old-Florida roadside attraction: free-roaming flamingos you can hand-feed and walk among, parrot and reptile shows, and jungle plantings of strangler figs and royal palms. It's charmingly dated in the best way — one of the state's longest-running attractions.
Ten acres of old Florida running since 1939 — flamingos that eat from your hand, bird shows, and a mercifully un-modernized charm no new attraction can fake.

Late morning, to catch a bird or reptile show while the flamingos are active near feeding.
Buy a cup of flamingo feed at the entrance — hand-feeding the free-roaming flock is the thing people remember, and it's easy to miss.
