The Toast app has a birthday reward section most people never open, and it pays in real dollars at independent restaurants. Toast is the point-of-sale system a lot of them run on. Add your birthday to your Toast profile and, for about a week around it, participating restaurants you have ordered from post a credit you tap to redeem at checkout. What showed up on one Sarasota phone this week: $10 at Turmeric Indian Bar & Grill, $10 at Wheat + Water Italian Kitchen in Lakewood Ranch, and $8 at Riviera French Café at UTC, plus $5 each at K-Bob Korean Street Food and Melao Bakery down in Orlando. These are credits, not a set item, so they stack on whatever you were going to order anyway.
