Venice, decoded: Gentle — it skews older and calmer; a nice dinner and a stroll beats a bar crawl here.
The one thing to know: You can literally pocket a million-year-old shark tooth off the beach — in a town designed to look like Northern Italy.

Venice cigar lounge & Bar

Daiquiri Deck Island of Venice

Oak & Stone
Its self-pour craft-beer wall — pour your own by the ounce from dozens of rotating taps — and 36-hour-fermented stone-fired pizza.
The novelty and the pizza — a wall of self-pour taps where you sample craft beer by the ounce, plus artisanal stone-fired pizzas on a 36-hour-fermented dough. A fun, low-commitment beer outing.
🗝️ Insider: Check in for a wristband and a glass, then pour your own at the wall — each tap screen shows the beer, ABV, and price per ounce, and you'll check back in with staff after 40 ounces.

Pop's Sunset Grill
Famous Grouper Reuben, with dockside seats on the Intracoastal
Pop's plates the Famous Grouper Reuben — fried red grouper, sauerkraut, Swiss, and thousand island on toasted marble rye — from dockside seats and a 4,000-square-foot tiki with nearly 180 degrees of Intracoastal. Sit the waterfront bar or the tiki, not the indoor TV room.
🗝️ Insider: Boat in at Marker 10, first-come on 175 feet of dock across from Nokomis Beach on Casey Key. By land: US-41 to Albee Road, left on Circuit Road — they say 459 feet on the right. A 9 p.m. ticket is last dinner seating, not lights-out. Keep the Reuben; leave Marker 10 tacos off the rail.
112 Circuit Rd, Nokomis, FL 34275, USA
Dockside Waterfront Grill
The only restaurant in Venice where you can pull up by boat, order fresh fish under a giant tiki hut, and actually mean it when you say you're stepping back into Old Florida.
Dockside trades the tourist-trap energy of most waterfront grills for something genuinely local: it sits at the historic Fisherman's Wharf Marina, so you'll see actual working boats alongside the sunset crowd. The menu pivots daily around fresh fish, the happy hour runs 3–6pm every day, and the hand-crafted cocktails don't taste like they're made from a well gun. It's lively without being loud, accessible without being generic.
🗝️ Insider: Skip the parking lot and come by water if you can—it's the whole point, and it changes how the place feels.

British Open Pub
Squire John's fish and chips, on the Garden Patio
The British Open plates Squire John's beer-battered North Atlantic cod with chips, on a Garden Patio that allows well-behaved dogs. This is Kathy and Kelly Olliver's 1998 Venice room on Jacaranda, not a food-truck stop.
🗝️ Insider: Happy hour 11–6 is a drink deal, not the plate — and it excludes holidays. Confirm the door clock; official pages do not print one. Visit Venice’s 200-whisky line is not the official 300. This is the Jacaranda room, not a food-truck stop. Sit the Garden Patio official names; the March 2026 magazine parking-lot party is a holiday tent, not the rail sit. Ask for Squire John’s if you want the named cod.
367 Jacaranda Blvd, Venice, FL 34292, USA
Food + Beer - Florida Sports Bar
A scratch-made sports bar that keeps its kitchen open until 1 AM or later, serving seasonal American classics alongside weekend brunch—this is not your dad's dive.
Food + Beer positions itself explicitly against the traditional sports bar formula: everything is made from scratch, the menu rotates seasonally, and they actually care about vegetarian options and healthy dishes alongside the wings and burgers. If you want to watch the game but eat something that didn't come from a freezer, this is the move. The late kitchen hours mean you can eat real food after midnight, which Venice doesn't offer much of.
🗝️ Insider: Check the seasonal menu before you go—it rotates, so the Meat Loaf Melt or Backyard Cookout Smash you read about might be gone next month. Order online ahead if you're coming late.

The Old Salty Dog Venice
The "Salty Dog" — a battered, deep-fried hot dog — plus beer-battered grouper and casual waterfront dining, from a three-location Sarasota-area institution.
An easy, cheap, casual seafood-and-beer stop — home of the "Salty Dog," a battered deep-fried hot dog, plus fried Gulf grouper — from a local waterfront mini-chain that's been around since 1985.
🗝️ Insider: This is the Venice Island location; for the classic waterfront setting, the City Island original overlooks New Pass and Sarasota Bay next to Mote Marine. Note this Venice store closes earlier than the Sarasota ones.
