Tampa Riverwalk: The 2.6-Mile Walk That Organizes the Whole City

Updated 2026-07-10 · By the Wayfind editorial team

The Tampa Riverwalk strings the city's best afternoon along 2.6 miles of the Hillsborough River — food halls, museums, parks, and skyline views, with zero cars and constant water. Start at one end hungry and finish at the other end happy; here's the sequence.

1. Armature Works, the north anchor

A restored streetcar warehouse turned food hall and hangout — dozens of vendors, river-lawn seating, and the best people-watching in the city.

Insider tip: Weekend brunch hours are a crush; weekday afternoons are easy.

2. The museum middle

The riverwalk's midsection stacks the Tampa Museum of Art, the Glazer Children's Museum, and Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park — the lawn between them is downtown's living room.

Insider tip: Curtis Hixon at golden hour, with the University of Tampa's silver minarets lighting up across the river, is the postcard.

3. Sparkman Wharf and the water taxi

The south end lands at Sparkman Wharf's shipping-container eateries and lawn, next to the Florida Aquarium. The Pirate Water Taxi turns the walk back into a boat ride.

Insider tip: Walk one way, boat the other — the skyline from the water is the view you came for.

Good to know

How long does the Riverwalk take?

It's 2.6 miles end to end — about an hour of straight walking, but realistically half a day with food and museum stops.

Is it stroller and bike friendly?

Fully — it's flat, paved, and car-free the entire way. Rental bikes and scooters are everywhere downtown.

Where should I park?

Garages cluster near both anchors — Armature Works to the north and the Channel District near Sparkman Wharf to the south. Park at one end and make it a loop with the water taxi.
