You are bringing children, you want an early night, or public nudity would ruin your week. This is emphatically adults-only.
The move
Book accommodation months out — the island sells out and rates multiply. Mid-week is far more manageable than the closing weekend.
Getting there
Do not drive. Key West is walkable and parking during Fantasy Fest is a genuine ordeal. Fly into EYW, or park once and leave the car.
One thing worth knowing
It began in 1979 as an attempt to bring visitors to Key West during its slowest month. It worked rather too well.
Make it an outing
Arrive a day early and see the actual Key West — Hemingway House, the Southernmost Point, a sunset sail — before the island changes character.
